The New Cool - Saving Fuel

Top 5 Reasons to Make a Motorcycle Your New Daily Driver

While cars, or “cages,” certainly do have their benefits, they can be pretty boring on the daily commute - meaning a ride you make back and forth everyday to work, school, or other regular place, usually with minimal luggage. Taking a motorcycle everyday can quickly turn a mundane morning drive into a heart pumping ride. They’re easier to park, more enjoyable, and just plain cool! And they can save you plenty in gas, which is something everyone wants right now. With gas prices becoming higher than the audience at a Rolling Stones concert, many Americans are looking for more ways to save on fuel. Of course treating every stoplight from Wake Forest to Garner like the drag strip probably isn’t going to save too much fuel but normal driving practices can save you some coin at the pump. There are an endless number of reasons to make your daily driver a motorcycle and below are the top 5!

  1. Because it's Cool
    1. Not much else to say here. You will definitely look much cooler. Throwing a leg over a Harley-Davidson will always be one of the coolest things you can do.
  2. Fuel Savings
    1. With modern fuel injection and tuning, motorcycles are becoming more fuel efficient than ever. For the 2022 models, Harley-Davidson advertises 43 mpg on the Road King, 47 mpg on the Street Bob 114, and even 51 mpg on the Iron 883! Even with the largest tank on a Harley-Davidson, the 6 gallon tank found on most touring models, a full tank on your bike will hurt the wallet a lot less than filling up your truck.
  3. Conversation Starter
    1. Bikers love talking about bikes. I’ve met some of the best people riding my bike and some of my closest friends are people I used to park beside everyday. It’s also a great opportunity for networking at your job with fellow colleagues and customers/clients. Answering the “who’s bike is that outside” can usually work in your favor.
  4. Easier Parking
    1. If you avoid Downtown Raleigh because of parking, and more specifically parallel parking, then you should especially consider a motorcycle. Many businesses even have designated motorcycle parking near the front door almost always guaranteeing you a close parking space. Universities such as NC State even have much better parking deals for motorcyclists. A $200-$300 parking pass for a semester can become a $40 pass, good for a whole year, on your bike. Plus, around town you can almost always find somewhere to squeeze your bike in.
  5. More Enjoyable
    1. The drive home can quickly become a relaxing cruise with one quick turn off the highway. Even if a stray shower pops out, they make rain gear for a reason. The long way home might quickly become the usual way home
