Talking Shop: Your Harley-Davidson Owner's Manual
When in doubt, ask your MOM (Motorcycle Owner's Manual). Your owner's manual has an abundance of information about Harley-Davidson maintenance. Each new Harley-Davidson motorcycle will come with one specific to your year and model. You can also look up your bike’s VIN to find downloadable versions through the Harley-Davidson service information website. Prefer a paper version? Speak to our Parts department about ordering one for your specific bike if you no longer have the original.
In your MOM you will find key information on things like:
- Bike specifications regarding tires, weights and dimensions, as well as capacities (think fuel, oil, coolant, etc.)
- Checking tire pressure and inspecting tires, tread wear
- Storing your bike and removing the bike from storage
- Pre-Ride Checklist
- Preload adjustment
- Warnings for fueling and specifications
- Suspension and adjustments with operating characteristics and probable causes
- Security system and FOB information
- Setting a PIN
- Transport mode
- Important operating information
- Cleaning and general care information
- Inspecting the bike for leaks and wear
- Battery replacement
- General Troubleshooting
- Harley-Davidson factory warranty information
- Break-in Riding Rules
We highly suggest reading through the owner’s manual before your first ride. We get it though, most people don't. However, if you are a new rider buying a new bike the "Break-In Riding Rules" is an absolute must read. For those that buy a used bike, there’s a good chance you’ve already surpassed the break-in period. No matter your familiarity with Harley maintenance, you are given a great resource right from the start with your MOM.
