North Carolina is a state of beautiful, rugged terrain and gorgeous vistas. There are endless ways to explore the state's natural beauty, but we've rounded up some of our favorite motorcycle rides in North Carolina that take you through some of the most breathtaking parts of this great state.
The Tail of the Dragon is one of the most famous routes in North Carolina, if not all of America. It's not just a road: it's an experience and an adventure.
The route is about 17 miles long and can be completed in about 30 minutes by experienced riders on high performance motorcycles (a modern sport bike or cruiser). At its busiest, there are around 2,000 cars per day traveling this route. However, they typically only travel during weekends so traffic is relatively light during weekdays as well.
If you're going to ride this route we recommend riding during late spring or early fall when temperatures are cooler and rain isn't likely until later in summer months (July-August).
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a 469-mile road that runs through the mountains of North Carolina and Virginia. Starting in Cherokee, North Carolina, it winds its way north until it meets up with Skyline Drive at Front Royal, Virginia. Along the way you'll find some of the most beautiful scenery in America as you pass through forests and valleys while riding alongside rivers and streams.
There are many points along this route where you can stop for hikes or picnics before heading back onto your bike again!
The Carolina Coastal Ride is a scenic route that travels through the Outer Banks, Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Portsmouth Island Lighthouse and Wright Brothers National Memorial. The route also passes by Cape Lookout National Seashore, which is located on an island in the Atlantic Ocean off North Carolina's coast.
You can start this ride in Wilmington or Myrtle Beach and end up in Raleigh if you want to make it an overnight trip!
The Blue Ridge Parkway runs 469 miles from Virginia to North Carolina and passes through some of the most beautiful scenery in America.
The Western Loop Scenic Byway takes you through Asheville and features views of Lake Lure, Chimney Rock and Devils Courthouse.
If you love motorcycles and exploring new places, North Carolina has some great rides for you to try. Whether it's a scenic road trip or one of the state's many biking trails, there are plenty of options for riders looking to get off the beaten path.
